Mikes Report
Dapple Stud is nice place to see right now. The mares and foals are stretching their legs along the new green grass, and the yearlings are walking already.
Our annual broodmare and weanling to yearling LLCs provide product for our annual sales as Dapple Stud along with our boarding clients who allow us to sell the foals that we help create. We expect these areas to grow over the next few breeding seasons. We have over 100 horses on the farm today which is ahead of our initial projections for the first year. Come on out to the barns and meet our team leaders at the barns, pictured here are Kate Wall and Stuart Morris, General Manager for Dapple Stud.
As Randy and I have tweaked the Dapple business model over the last couple of years to allow investors to participate along with us in various strategies we have learned to search the entire thoroughbred industry for investment opportunities. Our broodmare base is the foundation for supplying quality product and we will concentrate annually on adding current families to our broodmare mix via our annual broodmare LLCs that clients are welcome to participate in with us.Additional capital allows us to spread the risk over a higher number of quality mares creating a win/win situation for us and our investors. We have beefed-up our weanling to yearling strategy, as we now have the facility and the staffing required to expand the number of weanlings we purchase for resale in the one year investment strategy.
To recap, strategies where investors can participate with Dapple are as follows:
1. The Annual Dapple /Wavertree, LLC This investment has a one year lifespan making it easy to keep score. Take a look a the Rate of Return new offerings page to see the 2007 yearlings purchased for this event.
2. The Annual Dapple Weanlings, LLC In another one year strategy, we will buy foals this fall and resell them through Dapple Stud in the various yearling markets in 2008.
3. The Annual Dapple Broodmares, LLC A three year program of foaling and breeding with all the mares and offspring being sold by the end of the third year. The mare and produce reside at Dapple Stud, creating a good excuse for quarterly visits.
4. Stallion Shares Our broodmare base is nearing forty quality mares making us very desirable for stallion managers. They need breeders with quality mares to participate in the syndication of new stallions. They are breeding 125-150 mares in their first season and the stallion managers job is twofold.Book as many quality mares as you can and give him enough quantity to have a good representation in the markets and at the track are the first two fundamentals to get in place. The first two racing seasons a new stallions offspring will make or break him in the marketplace.Opportunities are created annually and it is an that we will watch closely this year.
5. Dapple Racing is also an annual event in which young horses are placed into service with a long range plan for retirement to the breeding industry.
