Thoroughbred auctions are the quintessential place to absorb an important aspect of the Thoroughbred marketplace. Dapple Bloodstock offers a unique way to enjoy this market through participation in programs known as pinhooking. This is a strategy in which the client invests in bloodstock for the sole purpose of selling it for profit at a later date. The primary Thoroughbred auctions take place seasonally at a variety of locations, providing an owner the perfect opportunity for travel and entertainment. This, combined with the action of watching your Thoroughbred go on the block and celebrating the fall of the hammer, is a real-life learning experience.
The most common pinhooking ventures are weanling-to-yearling partnerships, and yearling to two-year-old partnerships. Statistically speaking, middle to upper range purchases have greater chances for success, so why not come on board with a partnership operation based in the heart of Kentucky, and get more horses for your money.
Our Pinhooking ventures are one to two year rate of return strategies looking for profit. Dapple Stud in Bourbon County outside Paris, Kentucky is our base of operations for our mare and yearling programs. Come see us anytime and enjoy the journey from birth to sales ring.

Typically, a Dapple resale partnership will be announced 60 days before the auction process begins, with the units to be sold and paid for within 15 days after the auction. Resale partnerships have a short time line with a definite end date, immediately following the sale of the inventory at specific auction venues. This is an excellent opportunity for a newcomer to learn very quickly the Thoroughbred auction atmosphere. Annually we provide our client base with two opportunities to participate with us in pinhooking ventures. The first is a yearling to two year-old venture in conjunction with Wavertree Stable in Ocala which forms in July each year. This is followed by the Dapple Weanling pinhook, formed each October, in which the horses winter at Dapple Stud in Kentucky.
Opportunities to participate will come from LLCs formed just prior to purchasing weanlings or yearlings for resale each year. These are all ventures designed for return on investment and have a higher unit cost ($50,000 - $100,000); the entertainment/educational aspect of these programs can be very rewarding as well, as the owners are encouraged to visit the horses at will and attend all auctions.
Some of the benefits of Pinhooking with Dapple include: - Affordable ownership and excellent diversification for risk sharing.
- Built in expense allowances to avoid cash calls during the partnership's existence.
- Quarterly financial reporting and annual K-1 preparation at no additional expense to investors.
- Ongoing and direct access to boarding farms, broodmares and foals
- Dapple Bloodstock principals participate in all partnerships.

| Dapple Weanlings 2009, LLC |
Weanlings purchased to be sold at Yearlings in 2010. Over the winter and during next summer's sale prep phase, the stock resides at Dapple Stud in historic Bourbon coundy, where their everyday care is overseen by staff with incentives for success. Owners are encouraged to visit the stock, as it is a maintenance free way to keep an equine rate of return Thoroughbred investment in Kentucky. Please give us a call with any questions about the program.
